Description:
Each year sees entries from over 1,000 young horticulturists and heats will be held at the beginning of the year. The winner of the Young Horticulturist of the Year Competition receives the 1,500 Percy Thrower Bursary to travel. Heats are held in January-March each year at various venues around the country.

Criteria:
Anyone involved in horticulture who will be under 30 years of age on 1 July may enter the competition. This includes all those employed in production or environmental horticulture, and anyone studying for a horticultural qualification.
