Description: The Shell Centenary and Centenary Chevening Scholarships offers postgraduate students from developing countries the opportunity to study in the UK and gain skills that will make a long-term contribution to the further development of their countries by becoming leaders, decision-makers or opinion-formers.

No. of Scholarship Recipients: 6 (two Shell Centenary Scholarships and four Shell Centenary Chevening Scholarships)

Criteria: The scholarships are open to students who are nationals of and residents of any country other than: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

A typical successful Chevening applicant would be:

* Committed to return to their country and contribute to the socio-economic development of their country through implementing the new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK
* Established in a career, with a track record of excellence and achievement, and the prospect of becoming a leader in his/her chosen field. The vast majority of Chevening scholars are aged 25 - 35 years old
* Be able to show at interview that they possess the personal qualities to benefit from their scholarship and use it to succeed in their chosen career
* Have a clear idea of how their scholarship will benefit their country on their return
* A graduate with outstanding academic ability who has obtained the equivalent of a UK first-class Honours degree
* Have good English Language skills with scholarship applicants requiring a minimum IELTS of 7.5

Preference will be given to candidates who have not already had the opportunity to study in the UK.

Includes: The scholarships cover tuition fees, accommodation, maintenance costs and a return airfare for the scholarship holder.

* Due to the tremendous competition for these awards, you are encouraged to only apply for a Shell Scholarship if you satisfy the above criteria.
