D. W. Colvard Scholarships

Deadline: November 1st annually

Description: This scholarship was established in recognition of Dr. D. W. Colvard, chancellor of UNC Charlotte from 1966 to 1978, and his wife, Martha. The Colvard Scholarships are designed to attract students to the University who demonstrate great potential. Applicants' roles as leaders and their service to school and community are weighed carefully in the selection of Colvard scholars.

Amount: USD14,000 annually with USD2,750 for one semester of education abroad

Criteria: To be considered for Scholarships for Merit, applicants must:

* Submit a complete Freshman Admissions Application to UNC Charlotte by November 1st. A complete admissions application includes the application, USD50 application fee, official high school transcript, and SAT/ACT scores.

* Submit a complete Scholarships for Merit Application by November 15th (postmark date). A complete Scholarships for Merit application includes the four page application, official high school transcript, and a copy of your SAT/ACT scores.

Please note: These materials are in addition to the items submitted with the Freshman Admissions application.

* Be a high school senior in the top 10% of senior class

* Present a minimum SAT score (critical reading and math components) of 1200 or an equivalent ACT score

* Show evidence of leadership and service in school and/or community

* Resident of North Carolina
