Since 1990, the Foundation has awarded over $11.2 million in language grants. Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund a year of advanced study of an Asian language in Asia for American citizens and permanent residents of the United States who have a college degree and who plan to use an Asian language in their careers.

Criteria:
To be eligible for a grant, an applicant must: bullet Be pursuing an academic, professional or business career that involves the regular use of a modern East or Southeast Asian language bullet Have a college undergraduate degree bullet Be at or near an advanced level in the language as defined below bullet Be able to devote oneself exclusively to language study during the term of the grant; grants are not made for part-time study bullet Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States
