RTCA annually presents the William E. Jackson Award to an outstanding graduate student in the field of aviation electronics and telecommunications. This award is a memorial to William E. Jackson, a pioneer in the development and implementation of the nation's air traffic control system and an enthusiastic supporter of student engineers.

Criteria:
Any graduate student studying for a degree in the field of aviation electronics or telecommunication systems is eligible. Submissions must be in the form of a thesis, project report or technical journal paper. The work on which the submission is based must have been completed within the three years preceding the closing date and the papers submitted for consideration must be written in English and provided without publication restrictions. Joint authors may compete if both or all qualify as students and candidates for graduate degrees in this field. Joint authors would share the $4000 award. In addition to the paper (electronic submission preferred), candidates for the award must submit: (1) a one- or two-page summary of the written material; (2) a biographical sketch of the candidate; (3) a letter of endorsement from the candidate's instructor, professor or department head; two copies of each are required. Submissions received after the closing date will not be considered.
