Specialized Study Scholarships for Visiting Students

Description: The purpose of specialized study scholarships is to encourage students with focused areas of study to participate in an international experience. NYU offers unique curriculum at each site that meet many requirements for majors or minors not traditionally found in study abroad programs and seeks to aid students from colleges or universities other than NYU, who are interested in these programs, to meet the financial obligations the program imposes.

Students should only apply for a specialized subject area if they plan on enrolling in at least two courses listed in that subject heading while studying abroad, or participate in the specific activity in the case of Community Service and Italian Immersion.

Criteria: *Students must be full-time degree seeking students from an accredited US higher education institution that does not have an institutional relationship with NYU.

*Applicants must have been accepted or have an application pending to their desired NYU study abroad program

*Applicants must agree to enroll in at least two specialized courses while studying abroad

*Applicants will have preferably shown previous coursework or academic interest in the subject area of the scholarship they are applying to (preferred but not required)

*The scholarship is renewable the second semester for full-year applicants, provided they still meet all eligibility criteria and continue to enroll in two specialized courses in the
second semester of study.

The Specialized Study Scholarships are merit-based awards and applicants are evaluated on academic strength, motivation and intent. Financial need is not taken into account. Students with financial need may submit a separate application for need-based aid. Applicants are not required
to have completed previous coursework in the scholarship subject area, however, priority will be given to students who will receive credit towards their major or minor for specialized coursework completed while studying abroad through NYU.
